The treatment involves insertion of a small tube (catheter) into the hepatic artery (via the upper leg area), which carries a special contrast medium and chemotherapeutic agent to the liver and subsequently to the tumor. This is an alternate approach for cancer treatment for the patience who cannot undergoing surgery.
Preparing for the treatment:
  • Patient must refrain from eating or drinking at least 6 hours before the treatment.
  • Patient must rest at the hospital at least 2 hours before the treatment.
  • Patient should inform the physician of any disease or conditions that they have such as allergies, asthma, heart disease, and history of allergies to specific medicine and seafood.
    During the treatment:
The physician inserts the catheter into the main artery, injects a special contrast medium and chemotherapeutic medium, and takes an X-ray of the liver.
    After the treatment:
  • Patient should lay flat for 6 hours without bending the leg that has been treated.
  • Patient must place a pillow filled with sand on top of the injection site for about 6 hours.
    Treatment Duration:
