Ultrasound of the upper
abdomen is an imaging procedure used to examine the internal organs
of the upper abdomen including the liver, kidney, spleen,
gallbladder, pancreas, and blood vessels to some of these organs in
the abdomen. The ultrasound machine sends out high-frequency sound
waves that reflect off the body structures to create a
picture.
| Preparing for the exam: |
| Patient must refrain from eating or drinking at least 6 hours before the exam

| After the exam: |
| Patients can resume normal eating and drinking habits unless the physician or caretaker requested otherwise. | |
